The Victorian Government has banned all electronic waste (e-waste) including batteries from landfill, which means no electronic items can go into any kerbside bin. All batteries contain dangerous metals and chemicals. If sent to landfill these can leak and contaminate soil and groundwater. Taking batteries to a specialised battery collection point ensures these metals are recovered and cannot cause environmental damage.
Household batteries can be taken to the following facilities to be recycled:

- Woodend Resource Recovery Facility
- Gisborne Council Office
- Kyneton Administration Centre
- Romsey Hub
