Recycling bin

Your recycling bin (yellow lid) is emptied fortnightly on the opposite week to your general waste bin (red or dark green lid).

Your 240 litre recycling bin is for all recyclable household materials. 

Acceptable items:

	✅ Soft plastics – in special orange recycling bag only
	✅ Household aerosols
	✅ Aluminium and steel tin cans, foil (scrunched)
	✅ Aluminium foil and plates (clean or dirty)
	✅ Catalogues
	✅ Cardboard and paperboard
	✅ Cereal boxes
	✅ Envelopes (including window faced)
	✅ Food cans
	✅ Ice cream containers
	✅ Juice containers
	✅ Magazines
	✅ Rigid plastics such as biscuit trays, margarine tubs
	✅ Soft drink bottles, milk and detergent bottles
	✅ Newspapers
	✅ Office paper
	✅ Cardboard boxes

Unacceptable items 

	❌ General waste
	❌ Loose plastic bags, soft plastics
	❌ Bagged recyclables
	❌ Polystyrene and Foam
	❌ Light globes
	❌ Food waste and garden waste
	❌ Glass and ceramics
	❌ Clothing, shoes and textiles
	❌ Syringes and sharps
	❌ Electrical / e-waste and batteries

Recycling tips

• Remember to put your recycling loose into your recycling bin. If you put your recycling into plastic bags it cannot be recycled.
• Deconstruct and flatten cardboard boxes to make more room in your recycling bin.
• Items don’t need to be washed thoroughly before they are placed in the recycling bin. You need to ensure that items are empty so remove solid food scraps and liquids, maybe a light rinse.
• Do not place glass in your recycling bin.
• Soft plastics can be recycled in your household recycling bin by participating in the shire-wide soft plastics pilot. Soft plastics must be placed in special orange recycling bags provided by Council. To learn more, visit mrsc.vic.gov.au/soft-plastics

Putting your bin out correctly

Follow these steps to ensure your bin is put out correctly:

• Put your bin out the night before your collection day
• Leave a one metre gap between each bin and any obstructions, e.g. trees, cars, power poles
• Place bins close to the road with handles facing your property
• Ensure bins are closed
• Do not overfill bins or leave rubbish beside them (overfilled bins will not be collected)
• Bins must not weigh more than 80 kilograms 

• Bins must be returned to your property within 48 hours after a scheduled collection day

Where does your waste go?

Recycling collected from your household recycling bin is transported to Australian Paper Recovery (APR Kerbside) in Truganina, where it is processed and redistributed for recycling.
